Two key components of our Great Hall project are the ‘Mantle’ and LED digital display wall are being refined by manufacturers.
The LED wall has been conceived as a 21C equivalent to the stain glass window. The 5 x 16M screen can be programmed in numerous configurations that will add colour and animate the space .
The Mantle comprises approximately 1000 triangulated sheets of perforated metal that envelops the existing interior. This early mock-up in the fabricators workshop is being used to finalise hanging systems and edge detailing using grey flat sheet material. Future prototypes will explore perforation patterns using the rich golden brown surface we’ve specified shown in the above image.
The Mantle integrates lighting, ventilation and acoustic attenuation.
The metal surface will fold up into new skylights (shown here as reflective sarking of the workshop ceiling) drawing natural light deep into the Hall.
The Mantle is being produced by Facade Innovations, who have commissioned modeling and fabrication consultants AR-MA. The head contractor is Lipman.
